Beltangady: Dharmasthala police detected a pickup vehicle allegedly transporting sand illegally at the Charmadi checkpost and registered a case against its driver, who fled the spot after being signalled to stop during a routine inspection.

According to police, the incident occurred when personnel were conducting regular checks at the Charmadi checkpost. A pickup vehicle bearing registration number KA 21 B 0593 was travelling from Kakkinge towards Charmadi when police personnel signalled the driver to stop for inspection.

The driver initially stopped the vehicle but allegedly fled from the spot before the inspection could be completed.

Police find 30 baskets of sand

Following the driver’s escape, police inspected the pickup vehicle and found 30 baskets of sand allegedly being transported illegally.

The vehicle was checked at the Charmadi checkpost as part of routine monitoring by the police. The sand found in the vehicle was seized for further investigation and action in accordance with the law.

Police have registered a case against Fayaz, a resident of Beethige in Charmadi village, in connection with the alleged illegal transportation of sand.

The Dharmasthala police have launched an investigation into the case and are looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal transportation of sand.
