In a shocking incident in Chikkamudnoor village, Puttur taluk, a 69-year-old daily-wage labourer, Shivappa, was allegedly left to die at his workplace, and his body was unceremoniously dumped in front of his house by his employer. The incident occurred on Saturday when Shivappa, a resident of Salmara Tarigudde, fell seriously ill while working at Salmara Tauro Industries, a mill owned by Henry Tauro.
Shivappa, who was assisting with plastering work, reportedly suffered a heart attack and died at the mill. His employer, Tauro, placed his body in a pickup truck and drove it back to Shivappa’s house, where it was abandoned on the road without informing the family. Shivappa’s wife and daughter, Usha, discovered his lifeless body and brought it inside with the help of locals, as per Usha’s complaint to the Puttur police.
The incident has sparked outrage, with Dalit organizations staging protests outside the Puttur Town police station, demanding action against the employer. The police have arrested the driver of the truck, while Tauro is reportedly absconding. Preliminary investigations suggest negligence on the part of the employer. A postmortem confirmed that Shivappa died from a heart attack.
