Mangaluru : The Early Learning Centre (ELC) Mangalore is proud to announce that Jayashree Guruprasad, Montessori Coordinator at ELC, has been awarded the Directorship of IMTC (Indian Montessori Training Courses). Among the 19 directors of IMC across India, she is the first and only Director of IMTC from Dakshina Kannada and neighboring districts, such as Udupi and Malnad. This marks a significant milestone in her career and for Montessori education in the region.

Achieving Directorship—which allows an individual to conduct training courses independently under the auspices of IMC—is a rigorous process that requires deep reflection and mastery of Montessori philosophy. The path to becoming a course director is shaped by the invaluable guidance of experienced mentors renowned in their field.

The citation awarded to Jayashree during her Directorship ceremony applauded her efforts in spreading awareness about Montessori education among parents and creating a nurturing environment for young minds. Under the mentorship of Smt. Latha Rao and in collaboration with senior trainers, she gained the expertise to establish her own Montessori Training Centre in Mangaluru, providing a strong educational foundation for children in South Canara.

The citation highlights:“Working under the guidance of Smt. Latha Rao, she gained considerable experience and confidence to establish such a Centre in Mangaluru for the purpose of providing an excellent foundation for the children from that area of South Canara. In all these efforts of her in gaining knowledge in this field, she was in constant touch with senior Trainers like Smt. Uma Shanker, Smt. Sudha Prasad, and Smt. Shamaleka Rao on various aspects of child education.”

This recognition underscores Jayashree’s dedication to advancing Montessori education. She received the directorship on September 21, 2024, during a ceremony attended by the Chief Governing Council of the Indian Montessori Centre (IMC), including IMC President, Dr. B.V.A. Rao, who presented her with the citation.

Together with Latha Rao, Montessori Director of IMTC Koramangala, Jayashree was instrumental in establishing IMTC Mangalore in 2017. Since then, the center has trained four batches of Montessori primary educators, with the fifth batch inaugurated on September 9, 2024.

As Director, Jayashree plans to further expand the reach of IMTC’s teacher training programs, ensuring Montessori principles are effectively disseminated and practiced across the region. Her focus will be on enhancing the quality of early childhood education and supporting both educators and students in their Montessori journey.

As Montessori Coordinator at ELC, Jayashree has played a crucial role in the institution’s success, adopting Montessori pedagogy for early education, with eight fully operational Montessori environments for children aged 3-6. Her leadership is now guiding efforts to expand the pedagogy to the 6-8 age group.

Under Jayashree’s leadership, the 5th batch of IMTC Primary Teacher Training is currently underway, offering a blended learning format that combines online instruction with hands-on experience at the IMTC Mangalore center. While classes are ongoing, applications for the program are open until October 20, 2024.
