A woman from Uchila Someshwara in Dakshina Kannada district has filed a police complaint alleging that her son, who was promised a job in a gaming company in Thailand, was instead trafficked to Myanmar.
Job Promise Turns into Trafficking Horror
In her complaint to the Puttur Town Police, the woman, Zubaida, said her son Hemad Razak, who had studied up to Class 12 (II PUC), was cheated by two individuals who lured him with the promise of overseas employment.
Zubaida said her son had been looking for work when he came into contact with Ilyas, the owner of a travel agency in Puttur, and his associate Yash. The duo allegedly offered him a job at a gaming company in Thailand and promised to handle his visa and travel arrangements.
Trusting them, Hemad paid ₹1.5 lakh for the process.
Disappearance After Reaching Thailand
On October 17, Ilyas reportedly arranged Hemad’s air ticket and travel documents, and the youth flew from Mangaluru to Delhi, and then to Bangkok.
According to Zubaida, Hemad called her late at night on October 18, saying that after landing in Thailand, unknown individuals picked him up at the airport, drove him around for hours without answering his questions, and gave him little food or water.
He later told her that he had been taken into a forested area and felt unsafe.
Call from Myanmar and Allegations of Deception
Subsequently, Hemad managed to call his mother from different mobile numbers, informing her that he had been taken to Myanmar instead of being employed in Thailand. He claimed that he and several others had been detained by the Myanmar Army, who also seized their phones.
Zubaida said her son alleged that Ilyas had deceived him. When she tried to contact Ilyas on October 29, he disconnected the call and allegedly responded indifferently.
Police Register Case Under Emigration Act
Based on her complaint, police have registered a case at Puttur Town Police Station under Sections 10 and 24 of the Emigration Act, 1983, which deal with unauthorised recruitment and violation of emigration rules.
An investigation is underway to trace the youth and verify whether human trafficking networks are involved.
