Mangaluru: Aishwarya Raj, a resident of Kavoor, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing her professional pilot training and securing a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), marking the beginning of her career in the aviation sector.
Aishwarya’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as she was inspired to take up aviation by her elder brother, Ashif Raj, who is serving as a Senior First Officer (SFO) with IndiGo. His career in commercial aviation played an important role in encouraging her to pursue the demanding path of becoming a professional pilot.
Education in Mangaluru
Aishwarya completed her primary education at Canara Educational Institution in Urwa. She later pursued her pre-university education at St Aloysius College.
Her academic journey in the city laid the foundation for her further studies and professional ambitions. With an interest in aviation and encouragement from her family, she eventually chose pilot training as her career path.
Becoming a commercial pilot requires extensive theoretical learning, practical flying experience and specialised training. Aishwarya underwent the necessary training at institutions in India and abroad as she worked towards meeting the requirements for a professional aviation career.
Professional pilot training in Madhya Pradesh
As part of her aviation training, Aishwarya joined Chimes Aviation Academy in Madhya Pradesh. The academy provided her with professional flight training and helped her develop the skills required to operate aircraft safely and efficiently.
Pilot training involves much more than learning to fly an aircraft. Trainees are required to gain knowledge of aviation regulations, navigation, meteorology, aircraft systems, flight operations, safety procedures and emergency management.
For aspiring commercial pilots, the training process also demands discipline, concentration and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Aishwarya successfully completed this stage of her professional journey before moving on to specialised aircraft training.
A320 type rating training in Bangkok
Following her pilot training in India, Aishwarya travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, where she completed rigorous A320 type rating training at the Akron Aviation Academy.
The A320 family is widely used by commercial airlines across the world, including carriers operating in India. Type rating training is an important specialised stage for pilots seeking to operate a particular aircraft type. It involves detailed instruction on aircraft systems, procedures, simulator-based training and operational requirements.
Aishwarya’s completion of A320 type rating training adds another important qualification to her aviation career. The international training experience also gave her exposure to specialised aviation procedures and standards associated with commercial aircraft operations.
Inspired by her brother’s aviation career
Aishwarya’s decision to enter the aviation industry was strongly influenced by her brother Ashif Raj. As a Senior First Officer with IndiGo, Ashif has already established himself in the commercial aviation sector.
Having a close family member working as a professional pilot gave Aishwarya an opportunity to understand the demands and responsibilities associated with the profession. His experience also served as an inspiration as she embarked on her own journey towards becoming a commercial pilot.
The aviation profession requires years of training and continuous learning. Pilots must maintain high standards of technical knowledge, situational awareness and operational discipline throughout their careers.
Aishwarya’s successful completion of her training reflects the commitment required to progress through the various stages of professional pilot preparation.
A milestone for the family
Aishwarya is the daughter of Rajaram and Sulatha, residents of Manjalakatte in Kavoor. Her achievement has brought pride to her family and marks an important milestone in her professional journey.
With her CPL and A320 type rating training completed, Aishwarya is now equipped with important qualifications as she looks forward to building a career in commercial aviation.
Her journey from the classrooms of Mangaluru to professional flight training in Madhya Pradesh and specialised A320 training in Thailand demonstrates the opportunities available to young people who pursue specialised careers with determination.
Looking ahead in aviation
The commercial aviation sector offers a demanding but rewarding career for trained pilots. Aspiring pilots must meet strict regulatory requirements, complete prescribed flight training and undergo examinations and assessments before receiving their licences.
Aishwarya’s achievement is therefore more than simply completing a course. It represents the culmination of extensive training and preparation across multiple stages.
Inspired by her brother and supported by her family, she has successfully taken the first major step towards a professional career in aviation. Her achievement is likely to serve as an encouragement to other young people from the coastal Karnataka region who aspire to enter the aviation industry.
With her commercial pilot licence and A320 training completed, Aishwarya now looks forward to the next chapter of her aviation career and the opportunities that lie ahead.
