Mangaluru: KMC Hospital Mangaluru has launched the Better Bowel Clinic, a dedicated initiative aimed at encouraging people with bowel and anal health problems to seek timely medical care and overcome the hesitation often associated with discussing such conditions.

The hospital said many patients delay consulting a doctor due to embarrassment, allowing otherwise manageable conditions to progress and become more complex to treat.

Dedicated clinic for bowel and anal health

The Better Bowel Clinic has been established to provide a comfortable and confidential environment for patients experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Bleeding during bowel movements
  • Pain or pressure around the anus
  • Itching
  • Swelling or a lump near the anus
  • Unusual discharge
  • Changes in bowel habits

Doctors at the hospital advised that these symptoms should not be ignored and recommended early consultation with a specialist for timely diagnosis and treatment.

Female specialists for women patients

To make consultations more comfortable for women, female patients will be examined by female specialists.

The clinic will function from Monday to Saturday, between 9.30 am and 5.30 pm, from July 23 to August 8, 2026.

As part of the awareness campaign, patients visiting the clinic during this period can also avail themselves of special discounts on consultations, diagnostic investigations, and medical procedures.

Hospital urges people not to delay treatment

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Pramod Kunder, Hospital Director, KMC Hospital Mangaluru, said many people continue to suffer silently because they are reluctant to discuss bowel-related health issues.

“Many people continue to suffer in silence because they feel uncomfortable talking about bowel problems. As a result, they often delay treatment until the condition becomes more serious. Through the Better Bowel Clinic, we want people to know that these health concerns are common, treatable and nothing to be embarrassed about. By offering dedicated female specialists for women and a patient-friendly environment, we hope more people will seek help early and receive the care they need,” he said.

The Better Bowel Clinic is located at KMC Hospital, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle, Mangaluru.

The hospital has encouraged individuals experiencing persistent bowel or anal discomfort to seek specialist medical advice instead of ignoring symptoms or relying solely on home remedies.
