Mangaluru: Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, a constituent unit of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is set to celebrate its 70th Ganesh Chaturthi festival at its Lighthouse Hill Road campus on September 14 and 15.
Dr B. Unnikrishnan, Dean of KMC Mangaluru, announced the celebrations at a press conference held at the city’s Press Club.
Seven decades of campus tradition
Dr Unnikrishnan said the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration has been an integral part of campus life at KMC for the past seven decades.
The festival began as a celebration led by students and has since grown into a significant annual tradition that brings together members of the wider KMC community.
Over the years, the celebration has become an occasion for students, faculty members, staff, alumni and well-wishers to come together and participate in a shared cultural and spiritual tradition.
According to Dr Unnikrishnan, the long-standing celebration reflects the strong sense of community associated with the institution and its campus life.
Festival symbolises unity and harmony
Dr Unnikrishnan said Ganesh Chaturthi at KMC is not merely a religious celebration but also represents the unity, harmony and mutual bonding of the KMC community.
The festival is celebrated with enthusiasm every year, providing an opportunity for different generations of the KMC family to connect with the institution’s longstanding tradition.
The 70th edition holds particular significance as it marks seven decades of continuity. The celebration is expected to bring together the current student community along with faculty, staff, alumni and other members associated with KMC.
Press conference attended by faculty and students
Several representatives of KMC were present during the press conference.
They included Dr Sheetal Ullal, Associate Dean, KMC Mangaluru; Dr Mangala M. Pai; Dr Ashfaq Mohammed; and student council representatives Ananya Heggeri and Sourav.
The organisers said the upcoming celebration will continue the tradition of bringing the KMC community together while marking an important milestone in the institution’s cultural history.
