KSRTC launches long-awaited Mangaluru-Karkala bus service

The eagerly awaited KSRTC bus service connecting Mangaluru to Karkala via Moodbidri begins operations on December 14.

After years of anticipation, trial services started with two buses on December 12, followed by four more on December 13. From December 14, the route will feature 56 single trips daily.

The demand for this service has persisted since 2013. Private bus operators had initially opposed the move, citing concerns over the old Gurupura bridge’s structural issues. With the completion of the new bridge, KSRTC’s application was reconsidered, leading to trial runs and the final launch.

“We have secured a four-month temporary permit. During the trial, we will evaluate travel duration, identify suitable stops, and gauge passenger interest,” stated Rajesh, the divisional controller.

This service is expected to address a long-standing need for reliable public transportation on this route, benefiting commuters and easing travel challenges.
