Labourer Dies After Fall While Plucking Coconuts In Belthangady Taluk

Mangaluru: A tragic accident claimed the life of a labourer, Vishwanath from Puchehitlu, who succumbed to injuries sustained from a fall while plucking coconuts. The incident took place on June 12 at a farm in Puchehitlu, Balalu village, Belthangady taluk, where Vishwanath was working for Balakrishna, the farm owner. While attempting to climb a coconut tree using a ladder, the ladder slipped, causing Vishwanath to fall and sustain severe injuries.

Immediately after the accident, Vishwanath was rushed to a local hospital in Ujire for initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Mangaluru for further medical care. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Vishwanath succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

This incident highlights the risks faced by labourers in agricultural settings, where safety measures are often inadequate. The Dharmasthala police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The local community is mourning the loss of Vishwanath, emphasizing the need for better safety protocols to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
