The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has designated 27 street vending zones within the city and six in Suratkal to provide space for street vendors.
In Lalbagh, 14 fruit vendors will be allowed on Nehru Avenue Cross Road, located behind Pabbas. Food vendors will be set up near the water tank at Karavali Utsava grounds. In Mannagudda, 15 vendors will run mixed businesses behind Hopcoms, and 35 vendors will operate in front of the market at Alake. State Bank will see 125 mixed vendors opposite Indira Canteen and 74 vendors behind the Football Stadium. At Pumpwell Junction, 20 vendors will be near the Kankanady police outpost, with five fish vendors near Pumpwell Bridge and five mixed vendors at Padil Bajal Cross, Kottara Cross, and near Bejai KEB office.
Koti Chennaya Circle at Nandigudde will host 10 mixed vendors, while 15 vendors will be near Padavinangady Sharbathkatte by KPT. Additionally, 10 vendors will be stationed near Maryhill Petrol Pump, and 150 will stretch from the railway station to the RTO office. Other vendors will be set up at Derebail Prashant Nagara Church, Bondel Junction, Kavoor-Marakada Road, opposite Kavoor Market, and various spots near Kadri Main Road, Kuntikan Fire Service Depot, and Nandigudde Post Office.
In Suratkal, new vending zones include 20 vendors behind the MUDA market, 30 in the vacant MUDA market area, 20 in front of Katipalla Ganeshapura Temple, 12 near the fifth block fish market, and 56 opposite APMC Baikampady.
In the first phase of the new business zone near Indira Canteen at State Bank on Cantonment Ward, 93 vendors will be accommodated out of the 132 stalls available. These stalls will host flower vendors, and businesses selling clothes, bags, fancy items, footwear, fruit, vegetables, and fast food.
Overall, 667 street vendors have been approved, with 93 set to start in this newly developed area.
