Mangaluru: A wave of devotion and festive energy swept through temples and households in Mangaluru on Friday, as citizens celebrated Varamahalakshmi Pooja with prayers for wealth, health, and family prosperity.
The occasion, observed predominantly by women, began with invoking Lord Ganapati, followed by worship of Goddess Lakshmi, who is symbolically represented by a beautifully adorned Kalasha. These sacred pots were decorated with rice, mango leaves, coconuts, flowers, ornaments, and currency garlands, creating vibrant and meaningful displays of devotion.
At the Urwa Marigudi Temple, the festival unfolded in a spirit of unity and celebration. Women congregated to exchange greetings, offerings, and participate in group rituals. The temple was abuzz with traditional chants and the fragrance of flowers and incense.
No festive gathering is complete without food—families prepared and shared customary dishes such as Obbattu (holige), Huliyanna (tamarind rice), and Payasam (kheer). Friends and relatives exchanged prasadam, sweets, and flowers, reinforcing bonds of love and tradition.
The celebration reflected the cultural richness and devotional spirit that define Varamahalakshmi Pooja, uniting communities in gratitude and hope for abundance.
