Mangaluru Hosts Meeting to Boost Japan-India Trade Relations

Mangaluru: A high-level meeting to enhance trade ties and attract Japanese businesses to Mangaluru was held on Wednesday. Organized by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the event focused on leveraging the region’s advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and excellent connectivity.

KCCI President Anand G. Pai welcomed a Japanese delegation led by Prof. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice-President of Technical Education at NITTE, and Prof. Harikrishna Bhat, Director of International Collaborations for the Asia-Pacific Region. The delegation included notable representatives such as Komatsu Shinya, Prefectural Assembly Member and Former Vice Chairman of Japan; Katsutoshi Seiwa, Director of the Industrial Technology Innovation Division; Ito Susumu, Chief of Industrial Technology; Kotaro Kurosaka, CEO of Sanyo Machinery Company; and Tadashi Ariji, Group Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim Yamagata Factory.

During the meeting, Pai emphasized KCCI’s pivotal role in advancing trade and commerce, highlighting opportunities in the Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited (MSEZL), which has already attracted interest from multinational corporations. He assured the delegation of KCCI’s full support in streamlining business operations in the area.

Referring to Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta’s “Back to Ooru” initiative, Pai urged Indians residing in Japan to invest in Mangaluru to create local employment and empower MSMEs. Capt. Chowta, who felicitated the delegation, pledged assistance in areas like land acquisition and compliance, promising to collaborate with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to secure government grants for such projects.
