Mangaluru International Airport Achieves Record-Breaking Growth in 2024

Mangaluru, January 10, 2025: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) celebrated a milestone year in 2024, with exceptional growth in passenger traffic and Air Traffic Movements (ATMs). This achievement reflects the airport’s strategic initiatives to improve operations, expand connectivity, and provide world-class services, cementing its position as a key aviation hub in Karnataka.

Year-on-Year Passenger Growth

MIA handled 2,257,621 passengers in 2024, up from 1,927,466 passengers in 2023, achieving an impressive 17.12% year-on-year increase. The airport also broke its monthly record in December 2024, managing 206,410 passengers, surpassing the previous high of 202,892 in October 2024.

This robust growth underscores MIA’s commitment to serving as a gateway for both domestic and international travel, accommodating the increasing demand from passengers.

Growth in Air Traffic Movements

Scheduled commercial ATMs at MIA grew by 18.4%, with the airport handling 16,416 flights in 2024, compared to 13,860 flights in 2023. General aviation traffic also saw a 6.17% rise, with 340 chartered flights in 2024, up from 319 in the previous year.

These figures highlight MIA’s ability to manage increased flight operations while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.

Performance in FY 2024-25 (April to December 2024)

For the first nine months of FY 2024-25 (April-December 2024), the airport continued its upward trajectory:

  • Passenger Traffic: MIA handled 1,728,686 passengers, marking a 16% growth compared to 1,489,861 passengers during the same period of FY 2023-24.
  • Domestic Passengers: The domestic segment grew by 16.8%, with 1,198,535 travellers compared to 1,026,088 in FY 2023-24.
  • International Passengers: International travel rose by 14.3%, with 530,151 passengers compared to 463,773.
  • Air Traffic Movements (ATMs): The airport managed 12,116 ATMs, up by 16% from 10,448 in FY 2023-24.

December 2024: A Landmark Month

December 2024 marked a significant achievement, with MIA recording its highest-ever monthly passenger count at 206,410. The festive season and increased travel demand contributed to this remarkable milestone.
