Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport observed the 55th National Safety Month with a multi-stakeholder safety awareness programme involving agencies operating across the airport ecosystem. The initiative highlighted the airport’s commitment to strengthening safety practices and promoting a culture of responsibility among all stakeholders.
The programme brought together personnel from various operational and support agencies to emphasise the importance of workplace safety, risk awareness and coordinated action within the aviation sector.
Flag unfurling marks the start of safety observance
The event commenced with the unfurling of the National Safety Council flag by Chief Airport Officer of Mangaluru International Airport, Mr Binu Varghese.
The symbolic gesture marked the beginning of the safety awareness programme and reflected the shared commitment of all airport stakeholders to ensure workplace safety, health and wellbeing.
Representatives from various partner organisations highlighted the need for collective responsibility, proactive risk management and continuous learning to build a resilient safety culture within the airport ecosystem.

Innovative activities promote safety awareness
To communicate key safety messages in an engaging manner, organisers staged a nukkad natak (street play) for participants. The performance highlighted responsible motor vehicle practices and road safety through relatable scenarios, encouraging vigilance in day-to-day operations.
One of the most innovative segments of the programme was a safety-themed fashion show presented by strategic partners. The show demonstrated the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) across different operational roles, emphasising its importance in safeguarding personnel and ensuring safe work practices.

The event also included a safety-themed musical performance that reinforced awareness messages and encouraged active participation from attendees.
Recognising safety champions
As part of the celebrations, employees from various stakeholder agencies who consistently demonstrated strong adherence to safety protocols were recognised for their efforts.
The programme also honoured winners of competitions conducted during the National Safety Month observance, acknowledging their contribution to promoting safety awareness across the airport community.

Practical demonstrations and training initiatives
Participants witnessed a blindfolded demonstration of donning a firefighter’s safety kit, highlighting the importance of preparedness and practical skill development during emergencies.
In addition, the airport handed over a practical training toolkit to a stakeholder agency to support hands-on learning in electrical repair skills, further strengthening safety capabilities among personnel.
Commitment to a strong safety culture
Through the observance of the 55th National Safety Month, Mangaluru International Airport reaffirmed its commitment to building a proactive safety culture across all operational areas.
Airport authorities emphasised that safety is a shared responsibility that requires continuous awareness, training and cooperation among all stakeholders to maintain a secure and efficient aviation environment.
