MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has processed 785 applications related to corrections and the issuance of birth and death certificates during a special drive conducted from October 14 to 19, 2026.
The six-day initiative was organised to clear pending applications and speed up services for residents. According to the MCC’s Birth and Death Registration section, 841 applications were pending as of September 30.
Special drive helps clear certificate backlog
During the special drive, the corporation processed 455 applications for corrections and issued 62 new birth certificates and 50 death certificates.
The initiative was aimed at addressing delays in the processing of applications and helping residents obtain corrected or newly issued certificates. Birth and death certificates are important official documents required for various administrative, educational and legal purposes.
Of the applications processed during the drive, 217 applicants personally visited the MCC office and collected their certificates.
Some applications require additional documents
Despite the progress, some applications could not be completed because of documentation issues.
A total of 47 applications remained unprocessed due to the non-submission of supporting documents. These included caste certificates, SSLC marks cards, school records and joint affidavits from parents.
In another 171 cases, applicants were advised to obtain court orders because the documents submitted were considered insufficient or unsatisfactory.
The corporation’s action highlights the importance of submitting complete and valid documentation when applying for corrections or new certificates.
MCC urges residents to collect certificates
The corporation has urged residents whose corrected certificates are ready but have not yet been collected to visit the MCC office during working hours.
Officials also stated that 56 applications remained pending after the special drive and were expected to be resolved within the following five days.
The special initiative is part of the corporation’s effort to improve service delivery and reduce delays in processing birth and death registration requests.
Residents seeking corrections or new certificates are advised to ensure that all required supporting documents are submitted to avoid delays in processing their applications.
