Mangaluru: Mangaluru South police have arrested a 34-year-old man who had allegedly been evading arrest and living in hiding for nearly a decade in connection with a case registered in 2016.

The accused has been identified as Noufal, 34, son of Haider, residing at Imperial Hotel, Karbala Road, Kudroli, Mangaluru.

Case registered in 2016

According to police, a case was registered against Noufal at Mangaluru South police station under Crime No. 184/2016.

He was booked under Sections 143, 147, 341, 353, 504 and 506, read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police said Noufal had remained unavailable for arrest since the registration of the case and had been absconding for approximately 10 years.

As efforts to trace him were unsuccessful, an absconding chargesheet (LPC) was subsequently filed against him.

Police trace accused after gathering information

Mangaluru South police officers and personnel later gathered information regarding Noufal’s whereabouts and launched an operation to trace him.

After locating him, police arrested the accused and initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the case.

The arrest brings to an end nearly a decade of efforts to trace Noufal, who had remained unavailable to the investigating authorities since the case was registered in 2016.
