Mangaluru Police Warn Parents About Fake Extortion Calls

Mangaluru Police Commissioner

Mangaluru: The City Police Department is warning parents about a recent spate of fake extortion calls targeting the parents of students in various schools in the city.

The calls, which were received over WhatsApp during school hours on June 11 and 12, originated from foreign countries with country codes identified as Poland and Pakistan. The scammers allegedly impersonated police officers and claimed that the parents’ children had been arrested. The scammers then demanded money to secure their release.

Upon immediate verification by the police, all the students were found to be safe in their schools. The calls were confirmed to be fake and aimed at extorting money from parents.

A case has been registered, and a team from the Cybercrime Police Station in Mangalore is investigating the incident.
