Mangaluru: A church priest has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually harassing a minor boy within the limits of Mangaluru South police station. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation into the allegations.
The accused has been identified as Fr Cyprian Pinto. According to details in the FIR, the priest allegedly targeted a minor boy who regularly visited the church for prayers and called him privately to the prayer room and his personal quarters, where the alleged harassment took place.
The victim’s identity has been withheld in accordance with legal safeguards for children involved in sexual offence cases.
Alleged Harassment Reported at Church
According to the complaint, the priest allegedly subjected the boy to repeated sexual harassment after calling him to locations within the church premises.
The FIR states that another alleged incident occurred on the evening of August 14, 2026, while the boy was attending prayers. Following the incident, the frightened child reportedly shared his experience with friends.
The disclosure allegedly brought to light concerns that other boys may also have experienced similar abuse. However, these allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been independently established.
Parents Approach Police After Speaking to Bishop
The minor eventually informed his family members about the alleged harassment. His parents then raised the matter with the bishop.
Following the bishop’s advice, the parents approached the police and lodged a formal complaint against the priest.
According to the FIR, the consultation process contributed to a delay in filing the complaint. Police have taken up the case and are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents.

Investigators are expected to examine the complaint, gather relevant evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents. The report that other boys may have faced similar abuse may also require further examination.
