Mangaluru: Railway authorities launched a special enforcement drive against trespassing and illegal fishing activities near the Netravathi railway bridge, resulting in the booking of 15 violators and the collection of fines amounting to ₹7,500.
The drive was conducted under the leadership of Manoj Kumar Yadav, Inspector of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), along with station officers and other railway staff. The operation aimed to curb unauthorised access to railway property and prevent activities that could pose serious safety risks to both the public and train operations.
Special drive to enhance railway safety
During the inspection and enforcement exercise, officials found several individuals trespassing on railway property and engaging in fishing activities in the vicinity of the Netravathi railway bridge. Railway authorities said such activities are dangerous as they expose people to the risk of accidents and can potentially disrupt railway operations.
The Netravathi railway bridge is an important infrastructure asset in the region and carries significant rail traffic. Railway officials have repeatedly cautioned the public against venturing onto railway tracks, bridges and restricted areas, citing the possibility of fatal accidents.
Trespassing on railway property remains a major concern across the country, with railway authorities frequently conducting awareness campaigns and enforcement drives to discourage such practices. Fishing activities near railway bridges and tracks are also considered hazardous due to the movement of trains and the restricted nature of the railway zone.
Cases booked under Jan Vishwas Act
A total of 15 cases were registered during the special drive under the provisions of the Jan Vishwas Act. Each violator was fined ₹500 for breaching railway safety regulations.
Officials said the total fine amount of ₹7,500 was subsequently remitted to the booking office in Mangaluru. The enforcement exercise forms part of the railway administration’s continued efforts to ensure passenger safety and protect railway infrastructure from unauthorised activities.
The Railway Protection Force and railway officials have urged residents and members of the public to avoid trespassing and refrain from carrying out activities such as fishing in restricted railway areas. They have also appealed to citizens to cooperate with railway authorities in maintaining safety and preventing accidents.
More awareness drives likely
Railway authorities indicated that similar enforcement and awareness drives would continue in the coming weeks to deter violations and improve safety standards around railway premises. Officials emphasised that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating railway regulations.
