The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has proposed a bold ₹886.3 crore budget for 2025–26, emphasizing major improvements to civic infrastructure. The plan targets core areas like underground drainage systems, drinking water supply, and road upgrades. Expected revenue stands at ₹741.2 crore, with ₹500 crore anticipated through grants from state and central governments.
As part of the Smart Cities Mission, the city has already rolled out impactful projects, including the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), which now plays a key role in traffic regulation, emergency response, and public safety. Smart roads, upgraded public spaces, and energy-efficient lighting have added to the transformation.
Meanwhile, the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) is marking its golden jubilee by modernizing the port. Projects under way include new berths, high-tech cargo handling systems, and logistics infrastructure improvements—all designed to reinforce Mangaluru’s role as a vital maritime gateway.
Rail connectivity also saw a boost with the Vande Bharat Express between Mangaluru Central and Madgaon, operational since December 2023. The semi-high-speed train connects Karnataka and Goa in just 4 hours 35 minutes, offering a smooth, faster journey.
Looking ahead, the Mangala Corniche riverfront project promises to convert the banks of the Netravati and Gurupura rivers into vibrant, people-friendly public spaces with promenades, parks, and leisure zones—boosting both liveability and tourism.
Together, these multi-sector investments reflect Mangaluru’s ambitious vision for a more connected, modern, and inclusive urban future.
