Mangaluru Teacher Falsely Fined For Speeding On Expressway

A Mangaluru-based teacher, Dr. Vijayan N.K., received a surprising challan from Mandya police on Teacher’s Day, fining him Rs 1,000 for allegedly overspeeding on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. However, both he and his Volkswagen Taigun were in Mangaluru at the time of the supposed violation. The KSP Fine Payments website indicated that the violation occurred on September 5, 2024, at 6:15 PM at Bilagumba, Ramanagara.

Dr. Vijayan, Principal of Expert PU College, Valachil, was perplexed by the fine, given that his vehicle was clearly in Mangaluru. CCTV footage from his college shows him leaving the campus at 4:57 PM, making it impossible to cover the 309 km distance to the location of the offence in just 78 minutes. Additionally, he was attending an online PTA meeting from his home at the time the violation was recorded.

Further adding to the confusion, Dr. Vijayan noted that the photo grab on the police website appears to show a different vehicle, likely a Tata Harrier or a Toyota, and the image quality is too poor to even display the vehicle’s number.

When contacted, Additional Director General of Police and Commissioner for Road Safety, Alok Kumar, directed the issue to Ramanagara Additional SP Suresh, who promised to investigate the matter further. Dr. Vijayan is confident in his evidence proving his innocence and awaits resolution.
