Mangaluru: To mark the anniversary of the devastating air tragedy that occurred at Bajpe Airport in May 2010, the district administration will once again hold a memorial event on May 22. The solemn gathering is intended to pay homage and offer prayers for the departed souls of those who perished in the disaster.
The crash, one of the deadliest in Indian aviation history, claimed the lives of 158 individuals. In their memory, a serene park has been established along Tannirbavi Road in Kulur, serving as a space for reflection and remembrance.
According to an official press release from the District Collector’s office, this year’s tribute programme will be conducted at the memorial park on Wednesday, May 22, starting at 9:30 am. As in previous years, the event will witness the participation of officials, relatives of victims, and members of the public.
The administration has extended an open invitation to citizens to join the gathering and pay their respects. The memorial event not only honours the lives lost but also highlights the importance of aviation safety and collective memory.
Over the years, the commemorative park has stood as a symbol of the city’s enduring grief and unity in the face of tragedy. The annual tribute continues to bring together those who wish to remember and heal.
