Mangaluru — Milagres College of Nursing, in association with Milagres Degree College, observed World Organ Donation Day 2025 with a heartfelt program dedicated to celebrating life and raising awareness about the life-saving importance of organ donation. The event, held on August 14, carried the theme “Answering the Call.”
Proceedings began with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome from Dion. Dignitaries then lit the ceremonial lamp, symbolising the spread of knowledge, awareness, and good health. The theme was formally unveiled by Lisha, serving as a call to collective and individual responsibility in supporting organ donation.
Principal of Milagres College of Nursing, Dr. Diana Lobo, delivered an inspiring talk on the transformative impact of organ donation and the responsibility of healthcare professionals and students in promoting it. A soulful musical performance on life and hope added emotional depth to the day’s message.
Padmavathi, transplant coordinator at Jeevasarthakathe, Wenlock District Hospital, delivered the keynote address, offering insights into organ donation processes. A QR code linking to the official Jeevasarthakathe donor registration portal was displayed, encouraging attendees to pledge themselves as donors.
The presidential address came from Fr. Bonaventure Nazareth, correspondent of the institutions, while Dr. Alwyn Serrao, campus director and principal of Milagres Degree College, highlighted organ donation as a gift of life that embodies compassion and generosity.
Around 250 first-year BSc Nursing and degree students participated. The event was compered by Rakshitha, BSc Nursing student.
