Belthangady: A case of assault on a 17-year-old boy studying in a private educational institution has been reported within the Belthangady police station limits, raising concerns over safety and communal sensitivity in public spaces.
Incident at local fair
According to police sources, the incident took place on the evening of March 11 when the boy had gone to a local fair along with his school friends. During the event, a group of individuals allegedly objected to the boy being in the company of girls belonging to another religion.
The situation reportedly escalated quickly, with the group allegedly assaulting the boy and verbally abusing him in public.
Taken to another location, assault continued
Reports indicate that the accused did not stop at the fairground. The boy was allegedly taken on a motorcycle to another location, where the assault continued.
In a disturbing development, the accused are also said to have forced the minor to record a video statement, making him say that he had committed a mistake by attending the fair under those circumstances.
Police officials stated that such actions, if proven, could attract serious legal consequences.
Victim under stress, complaint filed later
Following the incident, the boy reportedly remained in a state of fear and mental distress for several days. Due to this, there was a delay in reporting the matter to the police.
On March 18, the boy’s father approached the Belthangady police station and filed a formal complaint regarding the assault and related incidents.
Case registered under BNS
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The sections invoked include 137(2), 115(2), 351(2), 352, 353(2), and 190, covering offences such as assault, wrongful restraint, intimidation, and related acts.
Officials have begun an investigation and are working to identify the accused involved in the case.
Police begin probe
Belthangady police stated that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the individuals responsible for the assault. Statements from witnesses and others present at the fair are being collected as part of the investigation.
Authorities have also indicated that the video allegedly recorded during the incident will be examined as evidence.
