On Sunday, June 30, Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta expressed his intention to thoroughly evaluate the proposal for the Kaniyoor-Kanhangad railway line, discussing its feasibility with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in the future. Addressing BJP workers at the party office in Sullia, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive study before proceeding with the project, which has the potential to significantly benefit Sullia taluk’s development.
Additionally, Capt. Chowta committed to addressing infrastructure challenges in the region, including network issues faced by Sullia taluk with BSNL and other private telecom players. Plans to secure Union government grants for insulated electricity supply cables and propose an agro-based industrial zone in Sullia were also discussed during the meeting.
During his visit to areas affected by sea erosion like Uchila, Mogaveerapatna, and Battampady, Capt. Chowta instructed Revenue Department officials to arrange temporary shelters for families at risk and ensure their relocation to safer areas. He also intervened in the aftermath of a tragic wall collapse incident at Kuttar Madaninagara, advocating for swift compensation distribution to the affected family.
