Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta said he has obtained full details from the concerned authorities regarding the explosion at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) plant and is proceeding to the incident site to personally assess the situation.
Chowta said he is in constant touch with MRPL officials, the Police Commissioner, Bajpe Town Panchayat and the Fire Department regarding the incident.
He said the post-explosion situation has been closely assessed and instructions have been issued to bring the situation fully under control and expedite safety operations.
The MP also said local hospitals have been instructed to remain prepared with the necessary arrangements to handle any emergency situation.
“All safety measures are being taken, and I urge the public not to panic,” Chowta said.
Chowta said he had cancelled all his scheduled public engagements in Belthangady for the day and was proceeding to the incident site to personally assess the situation.
He also appealed to the public to remain peaceful and cooperate with the administration while the authorities continue their response and safety measures.
“I request everyone to remain peaceful, refrain from spreading any kind of rumours or misinformation, and cooperate fully with the administration,” he said.
The MP’s statement comes as authorities coordinate the response to the incident involving the MRPL plant. MRPL officials, police, the fire department and local administration are involved in assessing the post-explosion situation and carrying out necessary safety operations.
