Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited observed National Safety Day 2026 at its Training Centre, highlighting the importance of workplace safety and collective responsibility. The programme focused on the National Safety Day and Month campaign theme: “Engage, Educate and Empower People to Enhance Safety.”
The event brought together senior management and employees to reinforce the organisation’s commitment to safety practices and operational discipline across all levels.
Leadership emphasises safety as top priority
Shri Nandakumar V. Pillai, Director (Refinery), presided over the programme and stressed that safety must remain the foremost priority in all operations.
“Safety should be the prime mission of our operations and everything else shall follow,” he said, urging employees to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to standard operating procedures to prevent accidents and incidents.

Shri Devendra Kumar, Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer, emphasised that decisions taken to strengthen safety would always receive full support from the organisation.
He noted that empowering employees to prioritise safety in every activity is essential for building a strong and responsible work culture.
Commitment to safety excellence
Addressing the gathering, Shri N. Anandha Kumar, Executive Director (Refinery), and Shri Deepak Prabhakar P., Executive Director (Marketing and Business Development), reiterated the organisation’s dedication to maintaining high safety standards and ensuring safe operations across the refinery.
They emphasised that safety excellence requires constant engagement, training and awareness among employees at every level of the organisation.
Safety pledge and awareness activities
As part of the observance, a Safety Pledge was administered in Kannada, Hindi and English, reflecting MRPL’s inclusive approach to safety awareness and communication.
Prizes were also distributed to winners of various safety-related competitions organised as part of the National Safety Day and Month celebrations.
Earlier, Shri H. S. Rajeev, General General Manager (Health, Safety and Environment), welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring workplace safety.
The Annual Fire and Safety Activity Report was presented by Shri Sudarsan M. S., Chief General Manager (Health, Safety and Environment), outlining the refinery’s safety initiatives and preparedness measures.

Reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility
Shri Deepak Babu, Chief Manager, proposed the vote of thanks, while Shri Harikrishnan N., Assistant Engineer, compered the programme.
Speakers during the event emphasised that safety is a shared responsibility that depends on continuous engagement, capacity-building and empowerment of employees. They highlighted that strong safety practices are essential for preventing incidents and protecting people, assets and the environment.
The observance of National Safety Day at MRPL served as a reminder of the organisation’s commitment to strengthening a proactive safety culture and ensuring safe and sustainable operations.
