Mangaluru: The Second Additional District Court has sentenced Murugan, the accused in a murder case reported under the Mulki Police Station limits, to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000. The verdict was delivered by Judge Jagadish V.N. The case relates to the murder of Harish Salyan (47), a resident of Ullanje in Mulki Pete of Bappanadu village, which occurred in March 2022 following a financial dispute.

Incident reported in March 2022

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 19, 2022, at around 9:45 pm. Murugan allegedly attacked Harish Salyan during an argument related to financial matters.

Investigators stated that the accused repeatedly struck the victim with a laterite stone during the confrontation. The severe injuries sustained in the assault led to Harish Salyan’s death.

Local residents later noticed the victim and alerted authorities. Police reached the spot and began preliminary investigations after confirming that the death had occurred due to a violent attack.

A case was subsequently registered at the Mulki Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to murder.

Police investigation and charge sheet

The investigation into the case was carried out by Circle Inspector Kusumadhar, who led the probe into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

During the investigation, police collected evidence from the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and conducted necessary forensic examinations. Based on the findings, a detailed charge sheet was filed before the court.

Sub-Inspector Sanjeev assisted in the investigation and supported the collection of crucial evidence that helped establish the sequence of events leading to the crime.

The prosecution maintained that the evidence clearly pointed to Murugan’s involvement in the attack and demonstrated that the murder occurred following a financial dispute between the accused and the victim.

Court verdict and sentencing

After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, and examining the evidence presented during the trial, the court found Murugan guilty of the murder of Harish Salyan.

Judge Jagadish V.N. pronounced the sentence of life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused.

Public Prosecutor Jyothi Pramod Nayak represented the government and presented the case before the court during the trial proceedings.

The court observed that the prosecution had successfully established the accused’s involvement in the crime beyond reasonable doubt.
