In a new safety regulation, the Mangaluru District Administration has mandated that all private buses, excluding city routes, must keep their doors closed while on the move. This requirement, effective immediately, aims to enhance passenger safety and minimize risks associated with open-door travel.
Deputy Commissioner Mulai Mughilan announced this directive during a recent Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting, underscoring its importance for public safety. The directive specifically targets private buses operating on intercity and rural routes, where closed doors are expected to reduce accidents and promote secure travel conditions.
To comply with the rule, any bus currently operating without doors will need to install them, following the stipulations outlined in Rule D-10 of the regional transport guidelines. Authorities emphasize that this is a non-negotiable safety upgrade, intended to ensure that all buses are equipped to adhere to the latest passenger safety standards.
The RTA has directed bus operators to implement these changes swiftly, with compliance checks scheduled to follow. Transport officials have been tasked with overseeing the modification process to guarantee that all private buses are fully compliant in the coming weeks.
This initiative represents a proactive step by the administration to safeguard passengers and is expected to significantly improve road safety in the region.
