Mangaluru: The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga with enthusiasm and active participation from officers, employees, CISF personnel, stakeholders, family members and members of the port community, reaffirming its commitment to health, wellness and holistic living.
The celebrations were inaugurated by S. Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson of NMPA, in the presence of senior officials, including Jijo Thomas, Secretary, NMPA; Veeraraghavan, Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer; Deepak Rath, Chief Mechanical Engineer; K. Rajendra Kumar, Traffic Manager; Surekha Hoskeri, Chief Medical Officer; Rajendra P. Pathak, Deputy Commandant, CISF; yoga instructor Kishore Suvarna; NMPA Board Member Jagadish Sanil; Yogendra, Superintending Engineer (Civil); and Vishalakshi, Senior Deputy Secretary.
Week-long yoga activities organised
As a prelude to the International Day of Yoga celebrations, NMPA organised a series of yoga sessions throughout the week at unique maritime locations, including onboard vessels, at the wharf and at the International Cruise Lounge.
The initiative aimed to convey the universal message that yoga promotes health, harmony and well-being across all sections of society and workplaces. The sessions witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, maritime professionals, stakeholders and members of the port community.
According to NMPA officials, the week-long observance reflected the authority’s continued efforts to promote physical fitness, mental wellness, stress management and a healthy work culture among its employees and associated stakeholders.
Mass yoga session marks the culmination
The celebrations culminated on Saturday with a mass yoga session organised at the port premises under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
The event brought together officers, employees, staff members, CISF personnel, family members and stakeholders in a collective expression of wellness and harmony. Participants performed various yogasanas, pranayama and breathing exercises under the expert guidance of yoga instructor Kishore Suvarna.
The session focused on highlighting the transformative benefits of yoga for physical health, mental well-being and inner balance. Participants actively engaged in the exercises and embraced the message of adopting yoga as an integral part of daily life.
Deputy chairperson stresses importance of yoga
Addressing the gathering, S. Shanthi highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into everyday life to maintain physical fitness, emotional resilience and overall well-being.
She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the NMPA fraternity and reiterated the Port Authority’s commitment to fostering a healthy, productive and harmonious work environment.
She noted that regular practice of yoga contributes significantly to stress reduction, improved concentration and enhanced quality of life, making it an essential tool for achieving both personal and professional well-being.

The event concluded with all participants taking a renewed pledge to adopt yoga as a way of life and contribute towards building a healthier and more balanced society.
