Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has announced that it will actively participate in the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ postcard campaign launched by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged mishandling of the NEET examination and the NEET paper leak issue.
Addressing reporters in Mangaluru on Tuesday, NSUI Dakshina Kannada president Suhan Alva said the organisation would conduct an extensive outreach programme in colleges across the district to mobilise students for the campaign.
Postcards to be distributed in colleges
Alva said NSUI activists would visit educational institutions throughout Dakshina Kannada and distribute postcards to students as part of the nationwide campaign.
Through the postcards, students will be encouraged to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the handling of the NEET examination and seek a comprehensive investigation into the alleged paper leak.
After signing the postcards, students will send them to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing their concerns over issues relating to the examination and the need for greater transparency in the country’s entrance examination system.
According to NSUI, the campaign is intended to provide students with a platform to voice their concerns regarding examination integrity and educational governance.
Dakshina Kannada delegation to join ‘Sansad Chalo’
Alva also announced that NSUI activists from Dakshina Kannada would participate in Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ programme scheduled to be held in New Delhi in August.
The programme is expected to bring together student representatives from different parts of the country to raise issues concerning higher education, examinations and student welfare before the national leadership.
He said the participation of district representatives would ensure that concerns raised by students from coastal Karnataka are also highlighted during the national campaign.
Focus on education-related issues
Speaking about the broader objectives of the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative, Alva said the campaign would focus on creating awareness about various challenges faced by students and the education sector across the country.
He stated that apart from the NEET issue, NSUI would gather feedback from students on other educational concerns requiring attention at the national level.
According to him, the issues collected during the campaign would be compiled by NSUI’s national leadership and subsequently taken up with the Union Government for consideration.
The organisation believes that direct participation by students through the postcard campaign will help amplify their concerns and encourage policy discussions on improving the education system.
The Dakshina Kannada unit said it would begin visiting colleges in the coming days as part of its outreach programme, urging students to participate in the campaign and express their views on issues affecting education and competitive examinations.
