Mangaluru: A one-day cardiology conference titled “SPECTRUM – 2026” will be organised on Saturday, January 10, at The Ocean Pearl, Kodialbail. The event marks the 15th edition of the SPECTRUM series, celebrated as its Crystal Jubilee, reflecting over a decade of sustained academic engagement in the field of cardiology.
The conference, which began in 2012, has grown into a respected academic platform for cardiovascular education and exchange of clinical expertise. This year’s edition is expected to attract around 250 delegates, including cardiologists, physicians, and postgraduate students of cardiology and medicine from across Karnataka and neighbouring states.
Platform for regional and national expertise
According to the Organising Chairman, Dr B V Manjunath, Chief Cardiologist at A J Hospital & Research Centre and Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology at A J Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, SPECTRUM 2026 aims to provide an intensive and clinically relevant academic experience.
He stated that eminent speakers from across the country will take part in the conference, sharing insights drawn from extensive clinical practice and research. Their participation is expected to enrich discussions and offer delegates exposure to contemporary trends and best practices in cardiovascular care.
Focus on practical and interactive learning
The scientific programme has been carefully structured to include lucid lectures, panel debates, and interactive sessions covering multiple sub-specialties within cardiology. Organisers noted that the emphasis will be on practical decision-making, recent guideline updates, and emerging technologies that directly impact patient outcomes.
Interactive sessions are designed to encourage active participation, case-based discussions, and exchange of perspectives between senior clinicians and young doctors. This format has been a defining feature of SPECTRUM over the years and is widely appreciated by delegates for its relevance to day-to-day clinical practice.
Strengthening continuing medical education
SPECTRUM 2026 underscores the importance of continuing medical education (CME) in a rapidly evolving specialty such as cardiology. Advances in diagnostics, interventional techniques, pharmacotherapy, and preventive cardiology demand constant upskilling and knowledge updates for clinicians.
By bringing together specialists and trainees on a single platform, the conference aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. Topics are expected to span preventive cardiology, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure management, arrhythmias, and interventional cardiology, among others, reflecting the broad scope of modern Cardiology.
Mangaluru as a medical education hub
Mangaluru has emerged as an important centre for medical education and healthcare in coastal Karnataka, hosting several academic conferences and professional forums. Events such as SPECTRUM contribute to the city’s growing reputation as a hub for high-quality medical discourse and training.
The choice of The Ocean Pearl, a centrally located venue in Kodialbail, is expected to provide a conducive setting for focused academic interaction while ensuring accessibility for delegates arriving from different regions.
Crystal Jubilee milestone
Celebrating its 15th edition, SPECTRUM 2026 represents a significant milestone for the organising team and the cardiology community associated with the conference. Over the years, the forum has consistently adapted its content to reflect changing clinical realities and emerging evidence, maintaining its relevance and appeal.
Dr Manjunath noted that the sustained success of SPECTRUM is a result of collective support from faculty, delegates, and institutions that value structured academic dialogue. He expressed confidence that the Crystal Jubilee edition would continue the tradition of high-quality scientific exchange and professional networking.
With participation from experienced cardiologists and young postgraduate students alike, SPECTRUM 2026 is expected to serve as a meaningful platform for learning, collaboration, and advancement in cardiovascular medicine.
