During the inspection, Mohapatra reviewed several critical sites and took note of the damage reported by local officials. One significant concern raised was regarding the Darkas hanging bridge on the Goonadka-Peradka road within Sampaje gram panchayat limits. Gram Panchayat President Sumati Shaktivelu presented an appeal highlighting the bridge’s vulnerability. The bridge reportedly sinks whenever the Payaswini River’s water level rises during the monsoon season. This poses a severe risk to the hundreds of students and residents who rely on it daily for their commute.

The hanging bridge is a crucial link, connecting numerous homes, a mosque, and a temple. The appeal from the gram panchayat emphasized the urgent need for either a new bridge or an alternative route to ensure safe transportation, particularly during the rainy season.

In response, AC Mohapatra assured Shaktivelu that he would escalate the issue to his superiors. He also instructed relevant officials to implement necessary safety measures in the interim. The proactive approach aims to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of the local community during the challenging monsoon period.

The assessment and subsequent actions are expected to address the pressing infrastructure concerns and enhance safety measures in the flood-prone areas.
