The Charmadi Ghat section of National Highway-73 is set for a major upgrade to a two-lane road, thanks to a ₹343.74 crore allocation from the central government. South Canara MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta announced the development, which will enhance connectivity between Mangaluru, Moodigere, and Tumkur, providing a significant boost to regional transportation.
The project will focus on improving the 75 km to 86.20 km stretch of the mountainous highway, addressing the long-standing need for road expansion and safety improvements in the Charmadi Ghat area. According to MP Chowta, the tender process has already been completed, and construction is slated to begin soon.
As a key route for Karnataka, the Charmadi Ghat upgrade is expected to streamline travel for passengers in the coastal region and facilitate the transport of goods, further strengthening the area’s position as a commercial hub. MP Chowta extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and other officials for prioritizing this essential infrastructure project.
