Mangaluru: A seven-year-old girl from Kasaragod died after falling from the third floor of an apartment complex in Sharjah on Monday morning, just a day after returning from a summer holiday in Kerala.

Girl falls from apartment in Sharjah

The victim has been identified as Safa, the only child of Mubarak Ali and Murshida, residents of Mogral in Kasaragod.

The incident occurred at around 9.00 am local time in the Al Nabba neighbourhood of Sharjah. According to reports, Safa was playing inside a room in the family’s flat when she apparently lost her footing near an open window and fell to the ground.

Her mother had already left for work, while her father was at home when the incident occurred.

Child declared dead at hospital

Safa was critically injured in the fall and was rushed to the nearby Al Qassimi Hospital. However, medical staff declared her dead on arrival.

The family has been living in Sharjah for the past eight years. Safa was a Grade 2 student at a private school in the emirate.

Police inquiry underway

The family had returned to Sharjah on Sunday after spending their summer holiday in their native Kerala.

Her body remains at the hospital mortuary as Sharjah police conduct a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A close relative said the family is in deep shock and is awaiting completion of the legal formalities before bringing Safa’s body home.

The tragic incident has left the family and the wider Kasaragod community mourning the loss of the young child.
