Mangaluru — The Sri Venkataramana Temple in Mangaluru celebrated Shravana Shukla Purnima with the age-old Samudra Puja (Sea Worship), a ritual deeply embedded in the coastal region’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The annual ceremony is conducted to invoke the sea’s blessings for prosperity, the safety of fishermen, and protection from natural disasters.
As part of the observance, devotees performed the Swarnatengu (golden coconut offering) and ksheera samarpane (milk offering), symbolising gratitude, purity, and the fulfilment of vows. The offerings were carried in a ceremonial procession from the temple premises to the seashore, accompanied by devotional singing and traditional musical instruments.
The occasion saw enthusiastic participation from devotees across Mangaluru, with temple trustees and prominent community figures taking part in the rituals. The vibrant event not only upheld an enduring religious tradition but also reinforced the community’s bond with the sea, which has long been central to coastal life.
