Mangaluru-based Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre has secured a contract to construct and manage a 150-bed multi-speciality hospital on port land.

Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Initiative

The agreement, with a revenue share of 3.7%, grants the institute rights to develop and maintain the hospital for sixty years. It also includes operating and maintaining the current 32-bed hospital owned by the New Mangalore Port Authority for two years.

Enhanced Medical Services

The new hospital will cater to non-Port Authority patients residing in surrounding communities, port workers, CISF retirees, and their families, offering services not currently available at the existing facility.

Rationalizing Healthcare Costs

The project aims to rationalize medical expenses for port personnel while providing employment opportunities for healthcare professionals in nearby areas like Panambur, Baikampady, Kulai, and Surathkal.

Privatization Trend in Port Hospitals

This initiative reflects a broader trend of privatizing port hospitals operated by the Union government, aiming to improve efficiency and service delivery.
