Mangaluru: Clarification Regarding the October End Semester Examination Schedule and Recent Student Protest
St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, wishes to clarify the recent developments concerning the October 2026 end semester examination schedule and the demand raised by a section of students on Monday, 12 October 2026, seeking the postponement of examinations in view of the Dasara festival.
The examinations were scheduled in accordance with the approved academic calendar, ensuring that no examinations were scheduled on gazetted public holidays.
The draft examination timetable was circulated to all students on 11 September 2026, providing them with fifteen days to raise objections, seek clarifications, or suggest necessary changes. Subsequently, the final timetable was published on 26 September 2026, as no objections or requests for change of dates had been received from the students.
The examination schedule was also prepared with due consideration for the academic commitments of students undertaking internships and projects already planned as part of their curriculum.
The College first received information regarding the proposed protest through social media on Sunday, 11 October 2026 at 11:36 am.
In view of this information, the College administration approached the Office of the Police Commissioner and the local police authorities as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty and staff.
On Monday, 12 October 2026, a section of students staged a protest and raised slogans against the institution without prior formal intimation or submission of any representation to the College authorities.
After considering the concerns expressed by the students and in the larger interest of maintaining a harmonious academic environment, the College administration has decided to reschedule the examinations originally scheduled for 19 and 22 October 2026.
The revised dates will be communicated to the students through official channels. Although the protest involved only a limited section of students, the College has responded to their concerns in a spirit of dialogue, understanding, and goodwill.
This decision reflects the institution’s commitment to addressing genuine student concerns while safeguarding academic interests and maintaining institutional stability.
The College firmly reiterates that all academic and administrative decisions are guided by academic requirements, institutional regulations, and the directions of the competent authorities. St Agnes College has always upheld the principles of secularism, equality, inclusiveness, religious harmony, and mutual respect. These values remain fundamental to the institution’s educational mission and administrative practices.
While the College remains open to constructive dialogue and genuine student concerns, it expects all students to respect established institutional procedures and maintain discipline and decorum.
The College makes it clear that any further incidents of indiscipline, obstruction of academic activities, or disturbance of campus peace will be viewed seriously and dealt with in accordance with the applicable institutional regulations.
The Principal and the College administration express their sincere gratitude to the District Commissioner, the Police Commissioner and police personnel, and the members of the Parents’ Association for their timely assistance, cooperation, and support in maintaining peace and order during the situation.
