Mangaluru – Continuous heavy rains in the city led to a tree falling near Bijai on Friday, causing temporary disruption to traffic flow in the area.
The incident occurred early in the day as intense showers continued to lash the coastal city. The tree, located near a busy stretch, came crashing down due to loosened soil and strong winds accompanying the rain. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported.
Vehicular movement was briefly halted, leading to congestion during peak hours. Commuters were advised to take alternate routes as traffic police redirected vehicles to ease the buildup.
Responding swiftly, a team from the Mangaluru Mahanagara Corporation launched an evacuation and clearance operation. Corporation personnel, in coordination with local emergency responders, began removing the fallen tree and clearing debris from the road.
Residents in nearby buildings expressed concern but appreciated the prompt response from civic authorities. Officials confirmed that no homes were damaged, and no injuries occurred as the tree fell away from residential structures.
The Mahanagara Corporation has urged the public to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and tree falls, as the India Meteorological Department has predicted continued heavy rainfall in the region.
Citizens are encouraged to report fallen trees, waterlogging, or any emergency to the corporation’s helpline numbers for immediate assistance.
