Beltangady: Dharmasthala police have arrested two warrant accused who had been absconding in separate theft cases registered at Dharmasthala police station, marking a significant breakthrough in long-pending investigations in the region.
The arrests were made in coordinated operations carried out under the supervision of senior police officials from Beltangady subdivision. Police said both accused had failed to appear before court proceedings and had remained untraceable for several years in connection with theft-related offences.
Scorpio Satish arrested in Nellyadi
In the first case, police arrested Satish alias ‘Scorpio Satish’ (35), a resident of Nellyadi, who had been absconding after failing to appear before the Beltangady court in connection with a theft case registered at Dharmasthala police station.
According to police sources, Satish had been evading arrest for a considerable period despite repeated efforts by investigators to trace him. Acting on specific information, a police team led by Dharmasthala sub-inspector Samarth and Beltangady sub-inspector Sikandar Pasha tracked him down at Nellyadi and took him into custody.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the Beltangady court. The court later remanded him to judicial custody.
Police officials stated that Satish is a habitual offender with several criminal cases pending against him across multiple police station limits in Dakshina Kannada district. Records indicate that he is facing trial in at least six different cases.
Of these, two cases are registered at Beltangady police station, two at Venur police station, one at Puttur Town police station and another at Dharmasthala police station. All the cases are currently under trial before the courts.
Investigators said the accused had repeatedly failed to cooperate with legal proceedings, prompting the issuance of a warrant against him. His arrest is expected to help police move forward with pending court procedures in the connected cases.
Accused absconding for seven years held in Mysuru district
In another operation, police arrested S N Kishore, who had allegedly been absconding for nearly seven years in connection with the theft of money from a car parked at Dharmasthala.
Police said the theft case had remained unresolved for years as the accused had gone into hiding soon after the incident. Investigators continued efforts to locate him by monitoring his movements and gathering intelligence from various districts.
Under the guidance of Beltangady deputy superintendent of police Rohini C K and circle inspector Ravi B S, a special team headed by Dharmasthala sub-inspector Samarth traced Kishore to H D Kote in Mysuru district.
The accused was apprehended during the operation and later brought to Beltangady. He was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Officials said the arrest demonstrates the police department’s continued efforts to track down accused persons even in old pending cases. They added that absconding accused cannot escape the legal process indefinitely and that police teams would continue to pursue offenders who avoid court appearances.
Police intensify action against absconders
Police sources noted that special attention is being given to long-pending warrant cases across the subdivision. Teams have been instructed to identify and trace accused persons who have skipped court proceedings or remained underground in criminal cases.
Senior officers appreciated the efforts of the investigation teams involved in both arrests. The coordinated operations between local police personnel and supervising officers played a key role in tracing the accused persons in different locations.
The arrests are also expected to strengthen pending prosecution processes and help ensure that trials proceed without further delay.
Local residents have welcomed the action taken by police, stating that timely execution of warrants and arrests of habitual offenders contribute to maintaining law and order in the region.
With both accused now in judicial custody, further legal proceedings in the respective theft cases are expected to continue before the Beltangady court.
