Mangaluru: Two persons have been taken into custody by the Vittal police in connection with an assault and robbery incident reported from the Marnamigudde area within Vittal police station limits in Dakshina Kannada district. The incident, which involved masked assailants allegedly attacking a pedestrian and fleeing with his mobile phone, triggered a swift investigation that led to the identification and detention of the suspects.
According to police sources, the case was registered following a formal complaint lodged by the victim, identified as Isubu (56), a resident of Vittla Padnoor village in Bantwal taluk. The complaint detailed how he was intercepted and assaulted while walking in the locality.
Victim intercepted by masked assailants
As per the complaint, the incident occurred when Isubu was walking through the Marnamigudde area. During this time, three unidentified masked men reportedly approached and stopped him. The men allegedly attacked him using their hands and a stick, causing physical injuries. After assaulting him, they snatched his mobile phone and fled the scene.
The victim later approached the Vittal police station and filed a complaint describing the sequence of events and the nature of the attack. Police said the accused had covered their faces, making immediate identification difficult.
Officers arranged for preliminary medical attention for the victim and recorded his statement as part of the initial investigation process.
Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Based on the complaint, Vittal police registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The sections invoked include 126(2), 115(2), 118(2), and 309(4), read with Section 3(5), which relate to assault, causing hurt, robbery, and acts committed by multiple persons with common intention.
Police officials said that the inclusion of multiple sections reflects the seriousness of the allegations, including the use of force and coordinated action by more than one accused person.
Following registration of the FIR, a dedicated team was formed to trace the suspects. Investigators began collecting local intelligence, reviewing movement patterns in the area, and speaking to residents and possible witnesses.
Two suspects apprehended during probe
During the course of the investigation, police traced and apprehended two suspects believed to be connected to the crime. The detained individuals have been identified as K Ravish Kulal (40) and Ashok (42). Both are being questioned to determine their exact roles in the incident and to identify the third person allegedly involved.
Police said the breakthrough came after field inquiries and technical tracking efforts. While officials have not disclosed all operational details, they confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody for further legal procedures.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen mobile phone and verify whether the accused were involved in any similar offences reported in nearby areas.
Further legal action underway
Police authorities stated that further legal action is being initiated against the detained suspects in accordance with the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They are expected to be produced before a court after completion of preliminary interrogation and documentation.
Investigators are also working to establish the sequence of events more precisely, including the planning and movement of the accused before and after the alleged crime. The role of the third masked individual mentioned in the complaint remains under investigation.
Officials added that patrol and surveillance have been increased in vulnerable stretches within the Vittal police station limits to reassure residents and prevent similar incidents.
Rising vigilance in semi-urban belts
Law enforcement officials noted that quick reporting by victims and timely registration of complaints significantly help in solving such crimes. They urged the public to remain alert and immediately inform police about suspicious movements or incidents.
The case highlights the importance of rapid response and coordinated investigation at the local police station level. With two suspects already in custody, police expressed confidence that the remaining aspects of the case will be resolved soon.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and formal charges are filed.
