Nagamangala: Two people were killed and more than 20 injured after a luxury Sugama Travels bus travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru crashed into a highway signboard near the Bellur toll plaza in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district.
The deceased have been identified as Kasturi Shan Bagh, 64, of Bengaluru, a passenger, and bus cleaner Ashok, 25.
Bus overturns after collision
According to preliminary information, the private bus was travelling along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway when it crashed into a signboard installed near the toll plaza.
The impact caused the bus to overturn, leaving several passengers injured.
More than 20 injured passengers were shifted to BGS Hospital in Bellur for treatment. The condition of the injured was not immediately available.
Police register case
Bellur Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
The exact reason for the bus losing control and colliding with the highway signboard is yet to be established.
The accident caused concern among passengers and motorists travelling along the busy Mangaluru-Bengaluru route. Police are expected to examine the circumstances of the crash as part of the investigation.
