Mangaluru: A two-wheeler rider was killed on the spot after a lorry allegedly rammed into his bike from behind in front of the Indian Oil petrol pump at Panambur on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shivadas Ganapati Nayak, a native of Ankola taluk in Uttara Kannada district. He was residing in a rented house in Bejai and was employed at a pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Baikampady.

Accident while returning from work

According to police sources, the accident occurred when Shivadas was returning home after completing his work shift. A lorry travelling in the same direction reportedly hit his motorcycle from behind near the petrol pump.

Due to the force of the impact, Shivadas fell onto the road and was pulled under the rear wheels of the heavy vehicle. He sustained severe injuries and died instantly at the scene, police said.

The incident led to brief traffic congestion in the area as bystanders gathered and vehicles slowed down following the mishap.

Police inspection and case registered

Mangaluru North Traffic Inspector Shivakumar M and his team rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The body was later shifted for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case in connection with the accident and initiated further legal proceedings. An investigation is under way to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the collision and to determine any negligence on the part of the lorry driver.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over road safety, particularly involving heavy vehicles on busy industrial and port connectivity routes. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such fatal accidents.
