Puttur, Jun 27: Several incidents of wall collapses have been reported in the taluk due to incessant rains. Early on Thursday, June 27, a compound wall collapsed onto the house of Majid, a resident of Bannur. Children who were sleeping were trapped under the debris but were rescued in time by locals.
Mud from an adjacent house’s compound wall collapsed, burying Majid’s house and causing partial collapse. Family members and locals swiftly pulled the children out from under the mud, ensuring their safety.
Response from Authorities
The estimated loss is over Rs 10 lakh. City municipality officials including president Fatima Johara, P G Jagannivasa Rao, municipal commissioner Madhu S Manohar, R I Chandra Nayak, and others promptly responded, overseeing relief efforts on-site. Local residents and municipal workers collaborated to clear the mud and assist the affected family.
