Mangaluru: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, the Konaje Police Station arrested a 19-year-old युवक for allegedly peddling narcotics and seized MDMA along with other materials near Ullal on Sunday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Zakir, a resident of Kasaba Bengre. According to police officials, he was caught while allegedly attempting to sell drugs to customers, including college students.

Raid conducted on credible information

Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H stated that the कार्रवाई was carried out based on credible intelligence inputs. A team from the Konaje Police Station conducted a raid at a public place near Fiza Grounds in Belma village.

During the operation, the police apprehended the accused on the spot and took him into custody. Authorities said the युवक was actively engaged in selling MDMA to local consumers, raising concerns about the spread of drug abuse among youngsters in the region.

Drugs and materials seized

Police recovered 10.6 grams of MDMA from the accused, which is estimated to be worth around ₹1.06 lakh in the illegal market. Along with the narcotic substance, several items believed to be used in drug distribution and consumption were also seized.

These included a mobile phone, a weighing scale, a smoke tube, a syringe, a cigarette lighter, and a motorcycle that did not have a registration number plate. Officials indicated that these materials could provide further leads in the investigation.

Case registered under NDPS Act

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, including Sections 8(c), 22(a), 22(b), and 22(c).

Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify possible links to a larger drug network. Efforts are also being made to trace the source of the MDMA and determine whether more individuals are involved in the supply chain.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the availability of synthetic drugs like MDMA in coastal Karnataka, particularly among students and youth. Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance and enforcement to curb the illegal trade.
