In a major step toward improving vaccine accessibility, the Manipal Foundation has donated 11 Emvólio portable, battery-powered medical-grade refrigerators to the district health authorities in Dakshina Kannada. These devices will enhance vaccine transport and storage, ensuring safe immunisation practices.

The official handover took place at KMC Hospital, Dr B R Ambedkar Circle, where Saghir Siddiqui, Regional COO of KMC Hospital Mangaluru, presented the refrigeration units to PHC medical officers in the presence of district health officials.

With high migration rates and dispersed populations, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada face significant challenges in vaccine distribution. Traditional ice-box methods often fail to maintain the required 2-8°C temperature, compromising vaccine efficacy. To address this, Blackfrog Technologies developed Emvólio, an active cooling solution that maintains stable temperatures for over 12 hours, reducing freeze-thaw cycles and ensuring potency.

District Health Officer Dr H R Thimmaiah highlighted that this initiative showcases the importance of public-private collaboration in tackling healthcare challenges and improving immunisation reach.
