Vedavyas Kamath, the MLA of Mangaluru South, strongly criticized the Congress state government for its alleged neglect of farmers and failure to address the pressing issue of water scarcity, particularly affecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru City.
Addressing the Media
Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP office on Thursday, March 21, Vedavyas Kamath highlighted the crucial role of water in the lives of the population and emphasized the state government’s responsibility to ensure its availability. He lamented the government’s failure in this regard, citing instances where water scarcity becomes evident during events and the influx of students from Bengaluru to Mangaluru for remote work due to water shortages.
Criticism of Congress Government
Kamath criticized the Congress party, which has been in power for eight years post-Assembly elections, for its alleged lack of significant development in addressing drought and farmer welfare. He cited nearly 800 farmer suicides, attributing them to the Congress’s negligence and failure to provide adequate compensation and control rising bank loans.
Call for Action
The MLA called for the formation of new committees to promptly address farmers’ issues and criticized the current government for its perceived inaction. He compared it unfavorably to the actions taken under BJP rule, particularly under the leadership of Basavaraj Bommai.
Stance on Illegal Activities
Kamath reiterated the BJP’s stance against illegal sand mining activities, accusing the Congress of exploiting revenues from such practices. He called for stringent measures to combat these activities and emphasized the government’s responsibility to intervene proactively.
Prioritizing Water Supply
Responding to queries about IPL matches scheduled in Bengaluru during the drought, Kamath stressed the need for the government to prioritize water supply for essential needs over sporting events. He reiterated the government’s responsibility to address public concerns and ensure adequate water supply during times of scarcity.
Commitment to Combating Illegal Activities
In conclusion, Kamath reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to combating illegal activities such as cow slaughter and sand mining. He criticized the Congress for alleged involvement in these activities and called for stringent action against perpetrators. Notable figures like Nitin Kumar, Sanjay, Vasant Poojary, and others were present at the press conference.
