Belthangadi: A large-sized tree fell on the workers’ rest house in the Mundaje plantation area of the Forest Department on Wednesday evening.
A nearby pump shed has been damaged. Three laborers were drinking tea right before the tree fell and had just started working in the plantation field, so they narrowly escaped the danger.
In this building, workers are usually taking care of cooking and resting. The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained as there are nursery materials inside the building that the tree has covered entirely.
On Wednesday, strong winds swept across the taluk accompanied by rain. Several trees fell on rural roads in areas such as Kalenjottu near Chibidre, Kodange in Mundaje, and Kayarthodi, causing traffic issues. Whenever it rains, the strong winds cause damage to coconut and rubber plants in various locations.
