The forest department’s vigilance wing in Mysuru is set to file a chargesheet against actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his wife Vijayalakshmi, and their manager Nagaraj for allegedly possessing scheduled birds protected under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Incident Details

In January 2023, the forest mobile squad raided Darshan’s farm in Kempaiahana Hundi, T Narasipura taluk, rescuing four bar-headed geese. A case under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act was registered against the trio.

Legal Proceedings

Despite receiving notices, Darshan did not appear before the investigation officer, leading to a stagnant probe until now. Based on Nagaraj’s statement, forest officials have decided to proceed with filing a chargesheet.

Potential Penalties

The offence carries a penalty of up to three years in prison or a fine up to Rs 25,000. There is also a possibility of resolving the case through payment of a fine.

Statements and Affidavit

Vijayalakshmi submitted an affidavit claiming responsibility lies with Nagaraj, who stated the geese arrived at the farm on their own accord.
