Mysuru: Bharathiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), a subsidiary of RBI for printing currency notes, which printed the new notes of Rs 2000 much before Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation, started printing Rs 500 notes on a large scale.
BRBNMPL which prints currency notes of all denominations has stopped printing notes of other denominations. It is focusing on Rs 500 notes only which are the need of the hour. Due to rising demand for Rs 500 notes, BRBNMPL too started printing them from the past couple of days.
BRBNMPL, Mysuru, is one among the three currency printing units of RBI in India. Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi banned Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, the unit was printing only Rs 2000 notes and transporting them via train to various places. It had kept South Western Railway authorities, Mysuru Division, on toes as they had increased transportation by four-folds. The authorities had chosen rail mode to transport Rs 2000 notes and had added additional coaches to trains leaving to various destinations for the last few three-four months.
Earlier, there were only two or three trips of consignment of notes in a month, but this has increased to eight trips since August. The consignment has been sent to different destinations including New Delhi, Chandigarh, Nagpur and Ahmedabad.
